There is no universal pass mark. Turnitin itself says the similarity score is not a plagiarism verdict: it shows how much of your text matches its sources, and your marker decides whether each match is a problem. Quotes and references you have cited properly can push the score up with no issue. What matters is which parts matched, and the report shows every one.

Small differences are normal. Each university chooses its own Turnitin settings, such as leaving out quotes, the bibliography or very short matches, and some also compare work against their own past submissions. Your report shows every match, so you can see what your marker is likely to look at.

Turnitin's AI writing check looks for text likely to have been written by AI tools such as ChatGPT, and it can also flag AI text that has been reworded with a paraphrasing tool. It shows the percentage of your document it flags. It is a likelihood, not proof, and scores under 20% are shown as an asterisk instead of a number, to avoid false positives.

Turnitin's AI check needs at least 300 words of prose and works on documents of up to 30,000 words, in English, Spanish or Japanese. Longer documents, such as a full thesis, still get the complete similarity report; only the AI result is left out. For an AI result on a longer document, check it in parts of up to 30,000 words.

No. It is never added to Turnitin's database or any other. Once your report has been emailed, we delete your file from Turnitin and from our own storage. When your university runs its own check, your work won't match against ours.

The report shows exactly which sections matched and which sources they matched. Rework those parts, fix your citations or rephrase, then check again before you submit. That's the point of checking first.
